Weather

The weather on Holbox is warm year-round, with a consistent temperature of 80-90 f. and generally gentle winds. Your summer clothes can be worn even in the middle of January. The sun is extremely strong, so you’ll need good polarized sunglasses and light, tropical fishing clothes, as well as reef-safe sunscreen and eco-friendly insect repellent. While fishing, you’ll be standing on the casting platform for a good while so you may also want to have something comfortable for your feet.

Seasonality

There’s excellent fishing all year round on the island, but trophy sized tarpon weighing in between 100/150+ lbs. are migratory, so if that’s what you’re after, you’ll want to book your dates between May and September. At other times you may have a shot at the resident schools. The entire rest of the year you’ll find medium and juvenile tarpon between 2 and 30 lbs. in their lagoon nurseries under the edges of the mangroves, or rolling in schools across grass flats in more open water. There’ll be 1 to 12 pound snook in season from November to February. Occasionally we find bonefish and permit on the sandy flats. Anytime you want to come, you’ll have options for outstanding fishing.
